Senate Votes to Adjourn

What an interesting vote last Friday, when the Senate voted to take this week off. More interesting is the vote: 47-33. Yes, 47-33 met the 1/2 majority to pass. H. Con. Res. 67 provided for a conditional adjournment for all this week, and, it only took 1 day to get through all the red tape.

The YEAs were mostly Democrats, with Shelby (R-AL) and Thomas (R-WY) joining.

The NAYs, mainly Republicans, also had the support of Bayh (D-IN) and Conrad (D-ND).

But that leaves 20 senators unaccounted for. It seems a good portion (20%) of the Senate decided they didn't need legislation to get up and leave. One vote is that of Tim Johnson (D-SD), who was released from the hospital into private rehab that day, and then there was Ted Kennedy (D-MA), probably celebrating his birthday, which could also account for his buddy Orrin Hatch (R-UT), possibly McCain (R-AZ) , and maybe the remaining 2 Dems.

As for the remaining 14 Republicans, they left the ranks of their party, but couldn't wait for the vote!
